Building surveys and accurate records of existing buildings are vital, especially with today's databases storing so much capacity, accessibility, asbestos and other data respective to asset and estate management. As well as enabling the accurate calculation of gross and net internal areas, proper CAD drawings of a building also allow for example ACM's (asbestos containing materials) or DDA problems to be located pictorially, so avoiding location ambiguities when referencing databases. Obviously, a good CAD drawing, deriving from a good survey, will be put to a host of other uses and as such, will become a valuable commodity that pays for itself in no time.

All EDL building surveys are carried out in accordance with RICS specifications and best practice. Crucially, we always determine the exact use or purpose of the building survey and agree the specification with the client from the outset.

Any type of building survey can be undertaken ranging from a pictorial verification of an existing building plan right through to fully controlled surveys intended for structural use. EDL use the latest in survey software and instrumentation, including hand-held systems, to ensure competitiveness, accuracy and good presentation.
